The Faculty of Sharia and Law at Thamar University Discusses Skills for Transitioning to the Judiciary

■ The Faculty of Sharia and Law at Thamar University held a judicial seminar today entitled "From the Classroom to the Judiciary: The Scientific Skills of a Judge," under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Haifi, the Rector of the University, and with the participation of a select group of academics and judges. The seminar discussed ways to enhance the academic and practical training of Sharia and Law students and improve their skills in advocacy, reasoning, and judicial ruling-making.

The seminar was attended by the Vice-Rectors for Student Affairs and Academic Affairs, Professor Dr. Abdulkafi Al-Rifai and Professor Dr. Adel Abdulghani Al-Ansi, respectively, the Rector's Assistant for Centers Affairs, Professor Dr. Essam Wasel, the Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Professor Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Bahla, and a number of academic leaders, faculty members and students.

The seminar addressed several topics, beginning with a presentation by Judge Abdulkarim Al-Basha, a member of the Appeals Prosecution, on the importance of mock trials in training and preparing judges for their work in the field. Dr. Bashir Qaddoum, the college's Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, discussed the principles of advocacy and judicial rulings, from theory to practice.

Judge Abdullah Abdulrazzaq, the Rector of Wasab Court, explored the process of issuing judicial rulings, their Sharia-compliant regulations, and their legal foundations. Judge Ibrahim Al-Emdi of the East Dhamar Court addressed the skills of judicial reasoning and justification, and the judge's role between legal texts and practice.

The seminar concluded with a presentation by Dr. Aref Malhi, the Head of the Sharia Department at the college, on the judicial skills and knowledge necessary for transitioning from Sharia and law students to judges, thus enhancing graduates' readiness for professional practice and bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

The symposium emphasized the importance of integrating Sharia and legal qualifications with practical training, and strengthening the link between the academic environment and the judicial field. This contributes to preparing qualified personnel who possess the necessary knowledge and skills to practice justice according to the principles of advocacy, sound reasoning, accurate justification, and adherence to Sharia and legal regulations.

The symposium was also attended by Shura Council members Mr. Hassan Mohammed Abdulrazzaq and Abdu Ali Al-Alawi, the Dean of the College of Education Dr. Ahmed Musad Al-Hadi, his deputy for academic affairs Professor Dr. Hamoud Al-Maliki, the Vice Dean of the College of Sharia and Law for Student Affairs Dr. Khalid Al-Mashawi, the Director of the College's Language Center Dr. Amin Al-Jamal, and a number of academic leaders, faculty members and students.
