Thamar University Council Holds its Fourth Meeting for the Academic Year 1448 and Approves a Package of Important Resolutions

■ Thamar University Council held its fourth meeting for the academic year 1448(2026/2027) today, Tuesday, chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Haifi, the University Rector.

At the outset, the Council reviewed the minutes of its third meeting, discussed their contents, and then approved them. Following this, the Council reviewed the items on its agenda and any new developments.

During the meeting, the Council Rector directed that the Council's membership be expanded to include a prominent and influential legal figure in the local community. This expansion aims to enhance the presence of relevant legal and judicial expertise in the Council's work and discussions.

Among the most prominent topics discussed at the meeting, the council reviewed the recommendations of the Academic Council, which included several matters related to academic appointments, settlements, promotions, sabbatical leaves, and leaves of absence, as well as amending the job titles of a number of researchers and faculty members, in accordance with the approved academic regulations and bylaws.

In this context, the council examined the procedures for the examinations and selection process for candidates accepted for nine academic positions as teaching assistants in the Faculty of Medicine, ensuring the integrity of the procedures and the fulfillment of the required conditions. It also discussed regularizing the status of several faculty members holding advanced academic qualifications, based on the recommendations submitted by the Academic Council.

The council also addressed requests for promotion of several faculty members in the Faculties of Medicine, Engineering, and Applied Sciences to the ranks of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor, in addition to requests for sabbatical leaves, sick leave, unpaid leave, and extensions of some of these, in accordance with the established regulations.

Regarding postgraduate studies and scientific research, the Council discussed the recommendations of the Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research Council concerning the final results of three Master's program graduates and approved the graduation lists for the four graduates of the Executive Master's program in Local Development Management for the 2021/2022 academic year.

The Council also discussed several new items on its agenda, including approving the description and launch of the Master of Science in Engineering Project Management program at the College of Engineering, with its academic and professional tracks, within the university's postgraduate programs. This provides a specialized academic and professional pathway in this field.
