The Third Thamar University Council Discusses Academic and Developmental Matters and Cooperation Agreements

■ Thamar University Council, chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Haifi, the University Rector, discussed a number of academic, administrative, and developmental issues related to the university's progress during its third meeting of the 1448 academic year (2026/2027) on Tuesday.

These included academic and research appointments, appeals, sabbatical leaves, and the outcomes of the first periodic meeting of the 1448, academic year for the presidents of public universities. The council also discussed cooperation and coordination agreements signed with Jibla University of Medical and Health Sciences, as well as several other emerging topics.

The Council began its proceedings by approving and ratifying the minutes of its previous meeting. Members listened to the reading of the minutes of the second meeting of the academic year 1448, held on 7 Safar 1448, corresponding to July 21, 2026, before proceeding to discuss the recommendations of the Academic Council and the items on the agenda.

As a part of the ongoing discussion of academic matters related to appointments, the Council reviewed the Academic Council's recommendations regarding several applications for academic and research positions within the university's colleges. These appointments aim to address the needs of academic departments and support the stability of the educational and research process, based on the results of the competitive selection process for the academic positions announced in the official gazette.

The Council also addressed the Academic Council's recommendations concerning several research appointments in various university colleges, in addition to discussing applications for sabbatical leave for the academic year 2026/2027, in accordance with the applicable regulations and procedures.

The council also discussed the implementation of the recommendations from the first periodic meeting with public universities for the year 1448, held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Education and Scientific Research. The meeting's outcomes included issues and directions related to developing higher education and scientific research, and enhancing coordination and integration among Yemeni universities. The university's third council recommended implementing these recommendations.

The council also discussed the cooperation and coordination agreements signed between Thamar University and Jibla University of Medical and Health Sciences on Tuesday, 21 Safar 1448 (August 4, 2026). These agreements reflect the university's commitment to expanding partnerships and academic and institutional coordination, exchanging expertise, and leveraging scientific capabilities to serve the educational and research process.

Thamar University Council concluded its agenda by discussing several topics and issues raised during the meeting, in light of the university's academic and administrative priorities and the needs of its colleges, centers, and academic departments.

The convening of the third meeting of Thamar University Council underscores the council's pivotal role in overseeing academic and administrative matters and making decisions that regulate university operations, aligning with the university's needs and its vision for developing its programs and enhancing the quality of its academic and research outputs.
