An Educational Event for Continuing Education at Thamar University to Raise Awareness of the Benefits and Risks of Radiology Thamar University Media/Jamal Al-Bahri /Jumad Awal 9, 1445. November 22, 2023 ■ Sponsored by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Haifi, the Rector of Thamar University in conjunction with the Revival of Thamar University Martyr's Week and the continued support of the Palestinian people and in order to continue the care, attention and preparation of students in medical specialties, an Educational event was held today for students of the Department of Radiology at the Institute of Continuing Education in cooperation with the University Student Forum in Al-Maqaleh Hall at the Faculty of Administrative Sciences. The event was a step towards raising awareness and promoting health safety, as the students of the Department of Radiology at the Institute of Continuing Education at Thamar University in cooperation with the University Student Forum organized a successful educational event entitled, "Education and Awareness of the Benefits and Risks of X-rays, the Effects of Medical Imaging, and Ways to Prevent Them". This event which opened with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran and then the National Anthem, is a part of the University's celebrations of the World Day for the Prevention of radiation hazards. Dr. Nayef Al-Tayyar, the Dean of the Institute for Continuing Education gave a welcoming speech to the attendees, thanked the participants for their efforts and praised the scientific topics discussed at the event. Dr. Abdulghaffar Al-Hamri, the Head of the Diagnostic Radiology Department at the Institute of Continuing Education, delivered an explanatory speech about the tasks and services of Radiology Departments in Hospitals and Health Centers, and the services they provide to patients. Dr. Amin Al-Jalal, the Representative of the Yemeni Radiology Society in Dhamar Governorate, also made an intervention about the danger of radiation and means of its prevention. Many interested Researchers and students participated in the event which included a series of lectures and useful educational interventions. The students made introductory presentations on the types of radiology devices and their capabilities and the benefits and dangers of X-rays and their uses in the medical and industrial field were also explained. Within the framework of health protection, it was clarified how to protect technicians and public personnel from exposure to harmful rays. The importance of following proper safety and prevention procedures when handling radiology devices was highlighted. In order to promote community awareness, the event gave important tips to individuals on how to protect themselves and their loved ones from radiation exposure and how to handle radiation devices safely at home and in the working environment. This event comes within Thamar University's endeavor to enhance health awareness and provide support and knowledge to students and the local community and received a positive interaction from the attendees who benefited greatly from the information provided and were able to improve their skills in dealing with radiation and Health Protection.
