As the First Public University, Granting Academic accreditation to Thamar University in Medicine and Surgery Programs

■ Under the patronage the President of the Caretaker Government, Dr. Abdulaziz Bin Habtoor, the Council for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Higher Education in Sana'a organized today the event of announcing and awarding the National Academic Accreditation Certificate for the Medical and Surgery Programs of Thamar University as the First Public University to receive National Academic Accreditation at the National Level,and the University of Science and Technology. At the event, the Prime Minister congratulated Dr. Bin Habtoor, the leadership of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research represented by the Minister of Higher Education and the Academic Accreditation Council for success, and the achievement of the two Universities to this important result in the programs of Medicine and Surgery. He pointed out the importance of proceeding with Academic Accreditation Programs at the Level of Yemeni Universities, and that this program is one of the most important indicators of success for Universities and the extent of progress in the completion of their programs, pointing out that the University that does not proceed on the path of obtaining Academic Accreditation is a University whose performance and programs are weak and substandard. Dr. Bin Habtoor praised the leading role of the twin Universities of Sana'a and Aden, which enriched the academic experience in Yemen with all the reasons for success. Dr. Bin Habtoor thanked the Rectors of Yemeni Universities, Faculty Members, Heads of Centers, and Deans of Colleges for their steadfastness and continued work under exceptional circumstances during the period of the aggressive attack on our country, where they were able to achieve great achievements in favor of the sustainability and development of academic work and its quality. He stressed the importance of documentation, especially in Academic Institutions and the importance of paying great attention to documentation in all their Educational Research and administrative activities, as documentation is the living memory of any institution and constitutes a memory of the homeland and the nation. At the announcement ceremony, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Hussein Hazeb, blessed Thamar and Science and Technology Universities with Academic Accreditation, and congratulated the Academic Accreditation Council for its success and the culmination of its efforts in announcing and granting national Academic Accreditation to the Medicine and Surgery Programs at Thamar and Science and Technology Universities. He considered what was accomplished today one of the fruits of the Blessed September 21 Revolution, which also resulted from the success of his Ministry in developing and updating the electronic portal for unified coordination in Yemeni Universities, adding some new services to keep pace with global developments, preparing a quality assurance manual, training experts, training Universities on the skills of preparing a self-assessment study, turning towards Academic Accreditation, leading Medicine and Surgery Programs towards international recognition, as well as the opening of four public Universities, and 12 Private Universities, noting that he is in the process of issuing a decision requiring any University with a Medical Program, and graduated from it with the need to apply for accreditation national. For his part, the Chairman of the Academic Accreditation Council, Dr. Ahmed Al-Haboub, congratulated Thamar and Science and Technology Universities on achieving this academic achievement, stressing the importance of continuing efforts to maintain Academic Accreditation, considering that National Academic Accreditation is the gateway to international recognition of programs that have received recognition, pointing out that achieving Academic Accreditation is expensive, but its returns are great on the colleges concerned and on their students at home and abroad and stressed the importance of issuing a decision obliging all Universities to obtain National Academic Accreditation. For his part, the General Director of the Academic Accreditation Council, Dr. Mohammed Dhaifallah, reviewed the stages and steps of obtaining Accreditation for the Medicine and Surgery Program at Thamar and Science and Technology Universities to achieve Academic Accreditation for both Universities. In his turn, the Rector of Thamar University Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi congratulated the Faculty of Medicine and its cadres to gain confidence and the victory of its program in Medicine and Surgery as the First Academic Accreditation at the level of Public Universities in Yemen stressing that the University will not stop at this point, but will push many other programs to gain Accreditation. While the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Thamar University, Prof. Dr. Amatalkhaliq Mihras considered that this joyful day is the culmination of the efforts of the Faculty's cadres in improving the teaching of Medicine and Surgery, pointing out that the Faculty is lucky under the patronage of the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi and with efforts of its cadres who are considered one of the most skilled doctors at the level of the Republic that its Faculty is a source of delight and that its cadres are attracted by competing Universities, both at the national level and at the level of Universities in the region. Dr. Mihras stressed that she will not hesitate to continue developing Medical Programs and make more efforts to improve all programs at the Faculty of Medicine at Thamar University. At the ceremony, the decision of the council for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Higher Education was announced the program of Medicine and Surgery at Thamar University was granted Academic Accreditation in Accordance with the standards, manuals, and models of Academic Accreditation of Medical Programs issued by the Council for a period of seven years ending in September 2023, the President of the University and the Dean of Medicine Faculty received the Accreditation Certificate. The President of the Government and the Minister of Higher Education were also honored with the shields of the Council, while Dr. Bin Habtoor honored the team and leadership of the Academic Accreditation Council with shields of excellence and leadership, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister for National Vision Affairs, the Ministers of Works and Transport of the Caretaker Government, the Office of the Leader of the Revolution, the Head of the Education, Culture and Media Sector, Former Ministers of Higher Education, Former Presidents of the Accreditation Council, and External Audit Experts for their contributions to the development of Higher Education in Yemen. The announcement was attended by a number of members of the House of Representatives and Shura Council, the President of the Supreme Medical Council, the Vice-Rectors of Thamar University for Graduate Studies, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Deans of Colleges and their Deputies, the Dean of the Quality Center at the University, the General Secartary of the University, and a number of General Managers at the University.
