■ In line with an academic vision that promotes the integration of theoretical knowledge and practical application, the Media Department at Thamar University organized a scientific and training visit for first and second year students to Sana'a Radio building.
The visit was sponsored by Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Hassan Al-Haifi, the Rector of Thamar University, and supervised by Dr. Amin Al-Jabr, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts. This initiative reflects an institutional approach that prioritizes practical application in the development and qualification of university students, aiming to prepare them with professional awareness and the practical skills to navigate diverse media work environments.
The visit aimed to provide students with firsthand experience of radio broadcasting and to familiarize them with the mechanisms and various stages of media production. This contributes to translating the theoretical concepts they learn in the classroom into real-world field experience and enhances their ability to grasp the requirements of media work according to modern professional standards.
The students were accompanied on this unique scientific and training trip, which included Sana'a Radio's General Program and the Faculty of Media at Sana'a University, by the Head of the Media Department, Dr. Bakil Al-Kulaibi, and the trip facilitator, Assistant Faculty Member Abdulmajid Al-Masi. They played a direct supervisory and guiding role, ensuring the smooth execution of the visit and the achievement of its educational objectives. This contributed to deepening the students' benefit from the field experience and enhancing their understanding of the nature of radio work and its professional practices.
During the visit, the students toured the radio station's offices and studios, and listened to detailed explanations provided by specialists about the types of radio equipment and their functions, the mechanisms for preparing and producing radio content, and its various stages, culminating in broadcasting using the latest available technologies. This provided the students with a comprehensive practical understanding of the radio process in all its technical and professional aspects.
The participants in the trip received a warm welcome at the Faculty of Media at Sana'a University from the Dean, Professor Dr. Omar Al-Bukhaiti, and several faculty members. A number of issues related to scientific and academic cooperation were discussed, and Dr. Al-Bukhaiti expressed his full readiness to overcome any obstacles that might hinder the students of the Media Department at Thamar University.
Those organizing the visit emphasized the importance of such academic activities in honing the skills of media students, given their direct impact on enhancing their practical competence and preparing them to enter the media job market in the future. They pointed out that engaging with media institutions is a fundamental pillar in developing high-quality educational outcomes.
It is worth noting that the Media Department is one of the newly established departments at Thamar University, having been opened within the Faculty of Arts at the beginning of the 1446/2024 CE academic year. This initiative reflects the university's commitment to introducing modern specializations that meet the needs of society and the requirements of development, and contribute to graduating qualified media professionals capable of actively participating in the media landscape.
At the end of the visit, the participating students expressed their appreciation to the administrative and technical staff at Sana'a Radio and the Faculty of Media at Sana'a University for their warm welcome and cooperation, and their thanks and gratitude to the leadership of Thamar University for its interest in providing applied educational opportunities that contribute to enhancing their academic and professional path and support their practical readiness for the future.
