Thamar University Holds Cultural Event to Celebrate World Arabic Language Day, Entitled “Arabic Language, Identity and Future Prospects”

■ As a part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening cultural identity and fostering linguistic awareness, Arabic Language Department at the Faculty of Arts, Thamar University, organized a distinguished cultural and literary event this morning to celebrate World Arabic Language Day 2025, entitled “Arabic Languag, Identity and Future Prospects.”

The event was held under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Hassan Al-Haifi, the Rector of Thamar University, and in the presence of Professor Dr. Abdulkafi Al-Rifai, the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Abdulkarim Zabiba, the Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Professor Dr. Adel Abdulghani Al-Ansi, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Hutram, the General Secretary of the University, and the Deans of the Faculties of Sharia and Law, Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Bahla, Dr. Amin Al-Jabr, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Essam Wasel, the Head of the Department of Libraries, Printing, Publishing and Translation at the university, a number of academic and administrative university leaders, faculty members and a group of students.

The event which held in Al-Ghumari Hall at the Central Library began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem and a presentation by first year students from Arabic Language Department. The opening scene reflected the symbolic importance of Arabic language in the national consciousness.

In his address, Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Hassan Al-Haifi, the University Rector, expressed the university's deep pride in Arabic language as the vessel of thought and the instrument of civilizational development.

He emphasized that Arabic is not merely a means of communication, but a language of planning, knowledge, and vision formulation. He explained that linguistic precision is an integral part of scientific and professional accuracy and that clarity of expression is no less important than structural soundness, given its direct impact on the integrity of work and the quality of achievement.

The University Rector pointed out that the Arabic language represents the identity of achievement and the symbol of belonging and that naming projects and facilities in eloquent Arabic carries a civilizational and cultural dimension that connects the present to its roots.

He emphasized that the university pays special attention to promoting the correct use of Arabic in academic reports and scientific correspondence, establishing Arabic terminology and cultivating in university generations the understanding that linguistic excellence is an integral part of scientific and professional excellence.

The event, attended by a number of writers, poets, vice deans, university directors, and heads of executive offices in the governorate, included a diverse cultural program. This program featured a poem recited by Dr. Abdullah Asbah, a faculty member in Arabic Language Department; a prose piece titled "Essential Reflections" presented by Essam Al-Khawlani, a student from the Faculty of Medicine, a theatrical performance by Wadih Al-Dufaini and Saqr Al-Qahif, students from the Faculty of Computer Science, addressing the issues of cultural alienation and its dangers to future generations, as well as the role of the family in protecting them, and a classical Arabic poem by Idris Abdulrazzaq and a colloquial poem by Wafi Al-Mathhab. All of these presentations showcased the richness and diversity of student creativity and the importance of taking pride in the Arabic language.

Professor Dr. Adel Abdulghani Al-Ansi, the Vice-Rector of the University for Academic Affairs, delivered a speech in which he affirmed that the university has a unified institutional profile that reflects its identity.

He noted that this year has been designated as the Year of Error-Free Writing, given that the Arabic language is a fundamental pillar of the university's identity and a shared responsibility among all its members.

At the conclusion of the event, Professor Dr. Abdulkarim Musleh Al-Bahla was honored as one of the most prominent figures in the field of Arabic language in our country. Dr. Essam Wasel was also honored by first year students in recognition of his academic and cultural contributions, a gesture reflecting the spirit of loyalty and appreciation that the university is keen to cultivate.

The event, in its entirety, affirmed that Thamar University's celebration of the Arabic language stems from a renewed institutional and cultural commitment aimed at preserving identity, enhancing awareness and building a knowledge based future that effectively combines the richness of the language with the demands of the modern age.
