The Rector of Thamar University Inaugurates Free Eye Camp to Treat 4,000 Cases at Al-Wihdah University Hospital in Maabar

■ In line with Thamar University's commitment to its social responsibility and its role in serving citizens, the University Rector, Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Haifi, who also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Wihdah University Hospital in Maabar, inaugurated a free medical camp for treating eye diseases at the hospital.

 

The camp aims to provide diagnostic, treatment, and surgical services to approximately 4,000 patients suffering from cataracts, vision impairment and conditions requiring lens implantation or other specialized interventions, including performing 450 surgeries.

 

This medical camp is the result of a broad partnership between Thamar University, represented by Al-Wihdah University Hospital, Dhamar Governorate Health and Environment Office, the Direct Aid Foundation, and Anwar Al-Mutahidoon Eye Center.

 

This initiative aims to expand the reach of free healthcare services to the most vulnerable groups and provide therapeutic interventions that directly improve patients' quality of life, especially given the difficult humanitarian conditions the country is experiencing.

 

During the opening ceremony, the University Rector praised the significant role played by the Ministry of Health and Environment, represented by Professor Dr. Ali Shaiban, the Direct Aid Foundation, and its partner, Anwar Al-Mutahidoon Eye Center, in the success of this humanitarian medical camp.

 

He emphasized that the camp exemplifies the positive integration between educational, health and humanitarian institutions and embodies the university's vision of strengthening the presence of the university hospital as a leading healthcare institution providing high-quality specialized services to the community.

 

Professor Al-Haifi also commended the medical and administrative staff at Al-Wihdah University Hospital, led by Professor Abdulsalam Al-Miqdad, emphasizing that the team's professional performance and high level of humanitarianism contributed to raising the standard of services provided and strengthening the community's confidence in the university institution, which is capable of playing a pivotal national and humanitarian role.

 

From his part, the Hospital's General Director, Professor Abdulsalam Al-Miqdad, thanked the University Rector and the Chairman of the Hospital's Board of Directors for his attendance, for inaugurating the camp, and for his generous support of all the hospital's activities and events.

 

He explained that the camp is an extension of a series of free health initiatives implemented by the hospital in coordination and partnership with the Direct Aid Foundation and the Anwar Al-Mutahidoon Eye Center. He affirmed the hospital's commitment to expanding partnerships with various entities, offices and health and humanitarian organizations.

 

He also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Governorate's Health and Environment Office, represented by Dr. Tariq Al-Khiwani, who was an active partner in the preparation, coordination and implementation, contributing to providing a suitable environment for the camp's launch and the achievement of its objectives.

 

He pointed out that the camp will provide examination and diagnosis services for more than 4,000 cases, in addition to dispensing medications, fitting lenses for eligible patients and performing hundreds of specialized surgeries for cases requiring expert intervention. He also emphasized that the hospital will continue to strengthen its partnerships to serve the community and facilitate patients' access to high-quality medical services.

 

The camp will run for six days. The first two days will be dedicated to examinations and assessments of cases requiring surgery, while the surgeries will be performed over the following four days, with the participation of a select group of doctors and consultants in the field of ophthalmology.

 

The camp is a part of a general initiative led by the hospital to enhance free specialized services, expand the circle of beneficiaries, and raise the level of health awareness among community members.

 

The opening ceremony was attended by the General Secretary of the University, Dr. Mohammed Hutram, the Head of the Media and Public Relations Department, Mr. Jamal Al-Bahri, the Hospital's Financial Director, Mr. Abdullah Al-Samawi, the Head of the Nursing Staff, Mr. Abdullah Al-Sultan, as well as the hospital's medical, health, and technical teams and the implementing partners from the Direct Aid Foundation.
