Al-Wihdah University Hospital Launches World Breastfeeding Week Activities

■ Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Haifi, the Rector of Thamar University, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Miqdad, the General Director of the Hospital, Al-Wihdah University Hospital in Maabar is hosting World Breastfeeding Week activities in the Motherhood and Childhood Center Hall.

This event seeks to raise community awareness of the importance of this vital practice and promote the health of children and mothers.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Al-Miqdad emphasized that "breastfeeding is the cornerstone of child health, reduces the incidence of chronic diseases and prevents breast cancer for mothers." He praised the Ministry of Health's efforts in supporting policies to empower mothers.

The event was attended by a number of prominent medical and administrative figures, including the Hospital's Deputy Director for Technical Affairs, Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Shamiri, the Financial Director, Mr. Abdullah Al-Samawi, and the Director of Nutrition, Salah Al-Shaouf, as well as a number of nutrition specialists and more than 20 mothers and 15 healthcare workers.

More than 82 mothers and fathers benefited from individual counseling sessions that contributed to improving their understanding of breastfeeding practices during July 2025.

The event included scientific lectures on the benefits of breastfeeding in preventing malnutrition and workshops to overcome the challenges facing mothers. The latest studies on the nutrients in breast milk and their role in enhancing immunity were also reviewed.

This event is a part of the global celebration of World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7), which this year focuses on  Slogan "Supporting Breastfeeding to Build a Healthy Future."
