Thamar University Discusses and Approves Bachelor of Interior Design Engineering Program Description in a Specialized Academic Workshop at the Faculty of Engineering

■ Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Haifi, the Rector of the University, the Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance and the Faculty of Engineering organized a specialized scientific workshop to discuss and approve the description document for the Bachelor of Interior Design Engineering program in the Department of Architectural Engineering. This initiative aligns with the university's commitment to developing academic programs and adapting them to national quality standards and labor market needs.
The workshop aimed to review the academic and legal framework of the program, analyze learning outcomes and their consistency with objectives, reference standards, and course content, as well as discuss the requirements for launching the program in terms of human resources, facilities, and organizational aspects and the steps for institutional and program accreditation.
The workshop commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a presentation from the organizing committee outlining the workshop's objectives and themes, before proceeding to formal speeches and specialized scientific presentations.
In his opening remarks, the University Rector, Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi emphasized the importance of updating academic programs according to a precise methodology based on measurable learning outcomes. He noted that the introduction of the Interior Design Engineering program represents an academic and developmental investment, contributing to the preparation of engineering professionals capable of responding to transformations in the construction, design, and urban services sectors. He also stressed the necessity of linking program specifications to accreditation and quality assurance standards, and to partnerships with the labor market and professional sectors.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance, Professor Adel Al-Ansi, provided an overview of the methodological framework for specifying academic programs and the mechanisms for aligning learning outcomes with the university's strategic objectives and national standards. He affirmed that program accreditation requires integration between the academic structure, the unified study plan, the infrastructure, and the systems for continuous monitoring and improvement.
In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Fouad Al-Jermouzi, the Dean of the College of Engineering, highlighted the college's technical and academic readiness to host the program, in terms of its studios, laboratory equipment, and engineering software, as well as the availability of qualified teaching staff in the fields of architecture, design and digital technologies. The Dean emphasized that the program will provide a specialized track that meets market needs and supports innovation in the interior architectural environment.
The workshop addressed several scientific and organizational topics presented by specialists in quality and academic programs. Dr. Abdul Karim Mohammed Al-Mawshki presented the legal framework for the program specifications document and the steps for institutional and procedural accreditation. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Saleh Yafa'a presented a detailed overview of the specifications document for the Bachelor of Interior Design Engineering program and its structural components. Dr. Adel Abdulghani Al-Ansi presented an integrated analysis of learning outcomes and their alignment with objectives, standards, content, and measurement methods. He also facilitated the applied working group sessions with the participation of Dr. Rashid Mohammed Al-Sanafi reviewed the program's description and methodological consistency before presenting, along with Dr. Yafaa, a final presentation of the outputs and recommendations.
This reflects a structured collaborative effort aimed at producing a scientifically and institutionally sound document.
The workshop, which included several faculty members from the Department of Architectural Engineering, concluded that the proposed program represents a valuable addition to applied engineering disciplines. It integrates the technical, functional, and aesthetic dimensions of interior design, enhancing graduates' ability to manage projects holistically based on modern standards.
The workshop witnessed broad academic, administrative, and professional participation, including university leaders, deans and vice-deans of several colleges, officials from the Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance, heads of program development units, representatives from the faculty union and the engineers' syndicate, as well as representatives from the labor market and other relevant bodies. This fostered a participatory approach to developing academic programs and ensuring their alignment with actual professional needs.
The Attendees included Dr. Mohammed Hutrum, the University's General Secretary, Dr. Khaled Al-Shuraim, the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Abdullah Abbas, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Eng. Mohammed Al-Kholani, the Head of the Engineers' Syndicate in Dhamar, Nasser Najad, the General Secretary of the Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance, and Ali Al-Thumrani, the General Secretary of the College of Engineering.
The workshop concluded with an emphasis on finalizing the technical observations and submitting the document in its final form through the appropriate academic channels to complete the approval and accreditation process.
