Thamar University Launches Student Sports Activities for 2026 Under the Slogan “Faith is Yemeni and Wisdom is Yemeni”

■ As a part of its commitment to enhancing individual and team skills among students, the university launched its student sports activities for the year 2026 this morning, under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Haifi, the Rector of the University, and the supervision of Professor Dr. Abdulkafi Al-Rifai, the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs.

The activities, held under the slogan “Faith is Yemeni and Wisdom is Yemeni,” with wide participation from students across the university's various faculties.

During the inauguration ceremony, the University Rector emphasized that the university leadership gives special attention to sports activities as an integral part of the educational process, given their pivotal role in building a well-rounded university student and fostering values ​​of discipline, teamwork, and fair competition.

He stressed the university's commitment to providing a stimulating and supportive campus environment for sports activities, one that meets students' aspirations and contributes to honing their talents and developing their abilities. He also considered naming the tournament after the martyr Al-Ghumari as an additional incentive for all teams to strive for greater creativity and excellence.

The University Rector explained that the growing sports movement at the university reflects a firm belief in the importance of investing in the potential of young people and instilling a strong sense of faith and patriotism in students, thus contributing to the development of a conscious and responsible generation capable of serving their community and country effectively and competently in various fields.

From his part, the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs indicated that this year's sports activities include diverse programs and tournaments that allow students to showcase their abilities and talents. These activities are a continuation of the cultural competitions and events in fields such as Quran recitation, poetry, and drawing, which began at the start of the 2025-2026 academic year.

He emphasized that the Student Affairs Office is working according to a well-defined plan to promote broad participation and achieve a balance between academic achievement and athletic activity.

He added that the successes achieved by the university's sports teams in previous years serve as an incentive to continue working and improving performance. He pointed out that these activities provide a positive space for constructive competition, contribute to discovering and nurturing talent, and solidify the culture of university sports as an authentic educational and behavioral value.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a number of university leaders, deans of colleges, members of the academic and administrative staff, and representatives from the University Student Forum, in addition to active student participation. The atmosphere reflected the university's commitment to promoting sports activities and establishing their presence within the comprehensive university system.

In the opening matches of the Martyr Al-Ghumari Cup for football and volleyball, the College of Engineering team secured a well-deserved victory over the College of Medicine team in Group A, while the College of Computer Science team achieved a resounding win against the College of Dentistry team.

In volleyball, the College of Computer Science team continued its strong performance with an important 2-0 victory over the College of Dentistry team, and the College of Engineering team secured a valuable 2-1 win against the College of Medicine team.

The opening ceremony and matches were attended by the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Fouad Al-Jarmouzi, the Dean of the College of Computer Science and Informatics, Professor Dr. Bashir Al-Maqaleh, the University General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Hutram, his assistant for financial affairs, Mishaal Sharhan, the General Registrar, Abdulmalik Al-Muallimi, the General Director of Youth Care , Ahmed Al-Awamri, as well as several general secretaries from the participating colleges, university leaders and staff, and representatives from the University Student Forum.
