Thamar University Launches the Martyr Al-Ghumari University Sports Tournament for the Year 1447

■ Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Hassan Al-Haifi, the Rector of the University, Thamar University launched its sports tournament for the academic year 1447, named this year in honor of the martyr Abdulkarim Al-Ghumari. This initiative reflects the university's commitment to promoting sports among students and showcasing their talents and skills.
The launch took place this morning at the Student Affairs Office with an official meeting chaired by Professor Dr. Abdulkafi Al-Rifai, the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs.
The meeting was dedicated to drawing lots for the football, volleyball, and tennis tournaments. Also in attendance were the General Director of Student Activities, the directors of activities from various university colleges, and several leaders and specialists from the Student Affairs Office.
During the meeting, the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs confirmed that this year's sports activities have been named the "Martyr Al-Ghumari Tournament" to commemorate the memory of the great Yemeni martyr, Chief of the General Staff, Major General Abdulkarim Al-Ghumari.
He also noted that sports activities are a fundamental pillar in building a well-rounded university student personality and contribute to developing a spirit of positive competition and teamwork. He further emphasized the university leadership's commitment to ensuring the smooth running of sports programs according to a well-defined schedule and organizational plan.
He explained that the tournament competitions will officially commence on the 15th of Rajab, 1447, as a part of the 2025-2026 academic year's sports season, with broad participation from the university's colleges. This reflects the active presence of student activities and their role in enriching university life.
The launch of this tournament comes within the framework of Thamar University's commitment to activating and encouraging student athletic talents and creativity and to fostering a stimulating university environment that combines academic achievement, sports activities, institutional discipline, university attire and a strong sense of faith.
