■ Thamar University organized a specialized scientific workshop today to discuss and approve the program descriptions for the PhD in Business Administration and the PhD in Financial and Banking Sciences (thesis track and two peer-reviewed research projects).
This workshop was held under the auspices of Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Hassan Al-Haifi, the Rector of Thamar University, as a part of an institutional approach aimed at improving the quality of academic programs and enhancing their scientific efficiency.
The workshop, organized by the Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance in cooperation with the College of Administrative Sciences, began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by an opening address by the University Rector, Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi.
In his address, he noted that the university is steadily continuing its development path, emphasizing that the standardization of doctoral programs represents a significant step in consolidating academic quality and enhancing the reliability of graduate studies outcomes, keeping pace with scientific advancements and the requirements of national development.
The Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research also addressed the phased development of doctoral programs at the College of Administrative Sciences. He explained that the college had previously launched functional doctoral programs, public administration programs, and academic doctoral programs with a thesis and coursework component. This has led to the current phase, where the doctoral program is being standardized with a thesis and two peer-reviewed research projects, all within a gradual development framework based on approved academic standards.
In his address, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance reviewed the technical and methodological role the center played in revising and refining program descriptions. He emphasized that this development reflects the university's commitment to implementing comprehensive quality standards and ensuring consistency between objectives, learning outcomes, and admission and graduation requirements, thereby enhancing opportunities for academic accreditation and reinforcing continuous evaluation.
From her part, the Dean of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences welcomed the participants and affirmed that the faculty views this development in doctoral programs as a natural extension of a well-considered academic path aimed at preparing specialized research personnel and strengthening the faculty's contribution to community service and scientific research, in accordance with Thamar University's vision and academic mission.
The workshop also featured an introductory presentation by Dr. Abdulkarim Mohammed Al-Mawshki, the Head of the Programs Unit, who outlined the workshop's objectives, themes, and the center's observations. These insights contributed to enriching the discussion and formulating realistic development proposals.
The workshop also included an in-depth scientific discussion session that examined the learning outcomes in detail, assessing their alignment with the program's overall objectives, approved academic standards, and admission and graduation requirements. The workshop, held in the training hall at the Center for Economic Studies, Consulting, and Administrative Training which was attended by the University General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Hutram, Dr. Rashid Al-Sanfi, the Vice Dean of the Center for Academic Development, Abdullah Rajih, the General Secretary of the College of Administrative Sciences, several other university leaders and staff members, and Nasser Najad, the General Secretary of the Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance, who facilitated the program.
