Thamar University Discusses Prospects for Developing Thinking Skills and University Teaching Skills in a Specialized Scientific Symposium

■ The Academic Development and Quality Assurance Center at the university organized a specialized scientific symposium entitled, “Thinking and its Skills in University Teaching.”

The symposium was held under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Haifi, the Rector of Thamar University, and in the presence of the First Deputy Governor of Dhamar, Mr. Ahmed Hussein Al-Dhurani, the Governorate's Public Mobilization Officer, and Senior Academic and Administrative Leaders. The event took place this morning in Martyr Al-Ghamari Hall at the Central Library.

The symposium was attended by Professor Dr. Abdulkafi Al-Rifai, the Vice-Rector of the University for Student Affairs, Dr. Adel Al-Ansi, the Vice-Rector of the University for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Development Center, Dr. Mohammed Hutram, the General Secretary of the University, as well as a number of deans, faculty members and administrative staff.

This participation reflects the university's commitment to developing the university education system and improving its outcomes.

At the outset of the symposium, which comes within the framework of Thamar University's ongoing efforts to develop the educational environment and enhance its academic role in preparing qualified scientific personnel capable of effectively contributing to community service and national development, the event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the opening address of the University Rector, Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Haifi.

In his address, Professor Al-Haifi emphasized the importance of integrating thinking skills into the educational process, considering them a key pillar for building a critical university personality capable of analysis, creativity and confronting the challenges of the scientific and professional reality. He also stressed the role of faculty members in adopting modern teaching methods that focus on developing the mind, not merely transmitting knowledge.

From his part, the Dean of the Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance, Professor Dr. Adel Abdulghani Al-Ansi, delivered a speech in which he explained that this symposium is a part of the center's programs aimed at enhancing the quality of university education, developing teaching competencies, and disseminating a culture of thinking-based education, in accordance with academic accreditation standards and the requirements of comprehensive quality.

The symposium addressed two main scientific themes. The first session was presented by Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Al-Dhumaini, who addressed the concept of thinking and its skills in university teaching, its various styles and its importance in developing students' intellectual and research abilities.

In the second session, Dr. Ahmed Musad Al-Hadi reviewed the mechanisms for integrating thinking skills into university teaching, explaining the concepts, practical steps, challenges facing implementation and ways to overcome them through effective educational methods.

The event was also attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Dr. Adel Emran, Mr. Hassan Al-Mawshki, the Consultant of the University Rector for Cultural Affairs, Mr. Dr. Rashid Al-Sanafi, the Assistant Dean of the Center for Academic Development and Quality Assurance, Professor Nasser Najad, the General Secretary of the Center, and a number of university leaders and academic staff.

The session featured scholarly interaction and discussions that enriched the symposium's themes and contributed to a deeper understanding of the importance of transitioning to a university education that stimulates thinking and creativity.
