Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

The Journal of Arts, an academic peer-reviewed publication, is issued by the Faculty of Arts at Thamar University in the Republic of Yemen. We welcome research submissions in Arabic, English, and French, following the guidelines outlined below:

First: General Guidelines for Accepting a Research Paper for Editorial Review

  • Research papers should be characterized by both originality and a sound scientific methodology.
  • Research papers must not have been previously published or submitted for publication elsewhere, and the researcher must provide a written acknowledgment of this.
  • Research papers should be written using proper language, adhering to the rules of precision and accuracy in Word format, if applicable.
  • Research papers should be formatted in the "Sakkal Majalla" font, size 15 for papers in Arabic, and size 13 for papers in English and French. Main titles should be in bold, size 16, with a line spacing of 5.1 cm, and 2.5 cm margins on all sides.
  • Research papers should have a word limit of 5,000 to 7,000 words, inclusive of figures, tables, and appendices. It is also permissible to exceed this limit up to 9,000 words.
  • Researchers must avoid plagiarism and properly cite the sources of any quoted phrases or ideas.

Second: Submission Procedures

Researchers are expected to follow these steps when submitting their researches:

  • The first page should include the title in Arabic, the researcher's name and affiliation, email address, and an Arabic abstract.
  • The second page should provide an English translation of the information on the first page (the title, the researcher’s name and affiliation, etc., and the abstract and keywords).
  • The two abstracts in both Arabic and English should encompass the following components: research objectives, methodology, and results. Each abstract should not exceed 170 words or fall below 120 words, presented in a single paragraph. Additionally, each abstract should be accompanied by 4-5 keywords that signify the respective fields of study in both languages, with the exception of words included in the title.
  • Introduction: The research should include an introduction in which the researcher provides an overview of the topic, summarizes previous studies, highlights the novel contributions the research will make in its field, identifies the research problem, states its objectives, emphasizes its significance, outlines the research approach, and presents its structure without separate headings within the introduction.
  • Presentation: The research content must adhere to established scientific standards and principles, addressing the relevant topics and requirements in a coherent and sequential manner.
  • Findings: The findings should be presented in a clear, sequential, and accurate fashion.

Tables, Footnotes, and References

  • First Method:
  • Accuracy and design should be considered when formatting tables according to the APA 7th
  • Footnotes should be documented within the text of the research according to the APA 7th
  • References should be arranged alphabetically at the end of the research according to the APA 7th The references should not include (Al, Abu, Ibn) in the alphabetical order. For example, Ibn Manzur should be sorted under the letter "Meem."
  • Second Method:
  • Footnotes should be documented at the end of the research as follows:

In the footnotes, it is sufficient to write the author's last name, an abbreviated title of the research/book, and, if applicable, the chapter and page number. For example: Al-Muqri, Nafh al-Tayyib: 1/100. If there is no chapter, the page number should be written directly. For example: Al-Basha, Al-Alqab Al-Islamiyyah: 176.

  • Source and reference data should be documented as follows:
  1. Manuscripts: Author's last name, first name, manuscript title, place of preservation, manuscript number. For example: Al-Dani, Uthman bin Saeed bin Uthman, Al-Taysir fi al-Qira'at al-Sab'ah, Egyptian Manuscripts Library, Cairo, Collections (310), Treatise (1), Microfilm number (4585).
  2. Books: Author's last name, first name, book title, place of publication, publisher, and publication date. For example: Al-Muqri, Ahmad bin Mohammed, Nafh al-Tayyib min Ghusn al-Andalus al-Ratib, Dar Sader, Beirut, 2008.
  3. Journals: Author's last name, first name, research title, journal name, publisher, country, volume number, issue number, date, and digital identifier if available. For example: Al-Mikhlafi, Aref Ahmad Ismail, Al-Tareekh al-Mutajaddid: Mustalah Jadid li Ta'thir al-Nataj al-Fikri lil-Muslimin, Journal of Arts, Faculty of Arts, Thamar University, Yemen, Vol. 11, No. 2, 2023, https://doi.org/10.35696/.v11i2.1533.
  4. Theses: Al-Kumani, Salah Ahmed, Masajid Madinat Dhamar Hatta Nihayat al-Qarn 12 H/18 M: Architectural archaeological study, Master's Thesis, Department of Archaeology, Sana'a University, Yemen, 2010.
  • They should be arranged alphabetically, excluding (Al, Abu, Ibn). For example, Ibn Manzur should be sorted under the letter "Meem."
  • After final approval and review by the journal's editorial board, romanize the references.
  • Research papers should be submitted in both Word and PDF formats, addressed to the editor-in-chief, via the journal's email: artsjournal@tu.edu.ye.
  • The editor-in-chief will confirm the receipt of the researcher's paper and subsequently inform them whether it will be accepted for peer review, or if revisions are needed before the review process can commence.

Third: Editorial Review and Publication Procedures

  • Once the editor-in-chief or managing editor approves a research paper for editorial review, it is forwarded to the assigned reviewers.
  • Research submitted for publication in the journal undergoes a comprehensive and anonymous double-review process.
  • The final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of research for publication is determined based on the evaluations submitted by the reviewers and editors. This decision is made in accordance with the research's scientific merit, its alignment with the stipulated publication criteria, and the journal's established policy, underpinned by principles of scientific integrity and research originality.
  • The editor-in-chief holds the responsibility of communicating the reviewers' decision to the researcher, indicating whether the research is suitable for publication, requires revisions, or needs further adjustments.
  • Researchers are obligated to implement the revisions and recommendations proposed by the reviewers and editors within a maximum period of 15 days.
  • When substantial revisions are needed, the research is re-submitted to the reviewers to assess the researcher's adherence to the feedback. For minor revisions, the editorial department oversees the process, culminating in a final verification. Subsequently, the researcher is issued an acceptance letter for publication, specifying the forthcoming issue's number and publication date.
  • Following confirmation that the manuscript is in its definitive form, it undergoes linguistic and technical review and proceeds to final production.
  • The research, in its final version, is returned to the researcher for a final review and to address any additional comments, using a designated review form.
  • The journal releases issues electronically on its website as per the predetermined publication schedule, and they are available for free download without any conditions immediately upon publication.

Fourth: Publication Fees

Researchers are required to pay the following prescribed fees:

  • Faculty members at Thamar University are charged a fee of 15,000 Yemeni riyals.
  • Researchers from within Yemen are charged 20,000 Yemeni riyals.
  • Researchers from outside Yemen are charged $150 or the equivalent in their currency.
  • Additionally, researchers are responsible for covering the expenses associated with sending hard copies of the publication.
  • Please note that the fees are non-refundable, even if the research is rejected during the review process.

Publication Ethics

For Researchers:

1) Submission of research to the journal implies the researcher's agreement to adhere to the publishing ethics established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). These guidelines can be explored through the following two links:

2) Researchers must sign a declaration confirming their ownership of the research, its originality, and that it has not been previously published or submitted elsewhere for publication.

3) If researchers become aware of any issues with their research, whether before or after submission, they must promptly notify the editor-in-chief and work to rectify these issues.

4) Researchers are expected to be responsive and address any recommended amendments throughout the submission, review, and publication process, as needed.

5) Researchers should avoid addressing topics that promote sectarianism, ethnicity, denominationalism, or partisanship.

6) Published research in the journal reflects the opinions of the researchers and not necessarily those of the journal itself.

7) The journal will not publish research that does not conform to its established standards, and if it discovers non-compliance after publication, it reserves the right to remove the research from its website and associated databases.

8) In line with the Code of Conduct, the journal will report any suspected cases of plagiarism or duplicate publication and may employ plagiarism detection software to check submitted papers at any time.

 

For Editors:

1) Editors are responsible for selecting suitable research papers for publication, making decisions on copyright and plagiarism issues, and consulting with expert reviewers and the journal's advisory board members as necessary.

2) Editors are committed to:

  • Maintaining neutrality and objectivity when evaluating submitted research, regardless of the researcher's race, gender, beliefs, or nationality.
  • Ensuring confidentiality by not disclosing any information related to submitted research except to authorized individuals designated by the journal's administrative body.
  • Upholding integrity and fairness, particularly in selecting and maintaining the anonymity of reviewers and researchers.
  • Assisting in the research and investigation processes to uphold the scientific integrity of submitted research, making appropriate corrections, or rejecting articles when necessary. Editors also address complaints as needed.

 

For Reviewers:

1) Each research paper is reviewed by two reviewers in the relevant field, with a third reviewer consulted if one of the initial reviewers rejects the research. The third reviewer's decision is decisive. All reviews are conducted through a double-blind process to maintain anonymity between the researchers and reviewers.

2) Reviewers are typically affiliated with different universities and hold high academic titles, such as professor or associate professor.

3) Reviewers are committed to scientific integrity, objectivity, and impartiality in evaluating research.

4) Reviewers adhere to set timeframes and promptly notify the editor-in-chief if they encounter any issues.

5) Reviewers maintain complete confidentiality regarding the research they review.

6) Reviewers substantiate their reports with scientific evidence and provide detailed comments on the research.

 

For the Journal's Administrative Body:

1) Following the highest standards of integrity and transparency.

2) Adopting the policies of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as a reference in the ethics of scientific research.

3) Researchers are given adequate opportunity to make required amendments and respond to reviewers' questions.

4) Researchers are informed of the permission to publish their research and are provided with specific publication details.

5) The organization of research papers in journal issues adheres to technical standards
