Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

Author Guidelines

The peer-reviewed scientific journal Arts for Linguistic & Literary Studies is issued by the Faculty of Arts, Thamar University, Republic of Yemen. It accepts publishing papers in Arabic, English as well as French, according to the following rules:

First: General rules for papers to be accepted for peer-review:

  • The paper should be characterized by originality and sound scientific methodology.
  • The paper should not have been previously published or submitted for any publication to another party, and the researcher has to submit a written undertaking for that.
  • Papers should be written in a sound language, taking into account the rules of punctuation and accuracy of forms - if any - in (Word) format.
  • Papers shall be written in (Sakkal Majalla) font, size (15), for papers in Arabic; and in (Sakkal Majalla) font, size (13) for papers in both English and French. The headlines are in bold, size (16). The space between the lines is (1.5 cm), and the margins are (2.5 cm) on each side.
  • The paper shall not either exceed (7000) words, or be less than (5000) words, including figures, tables and appendices. Any excess required maybe allowed up to (9000) words.
  • The researcher must avoid plagiarism or quoting others' statements or ideas without referring to the original sources.

 

Second: Procedures for Applying for Publication:

The researcher is obligated to arrange the submitted paper according to the following steps:

  • The first page contains the title in Arabic, the researcher's name and title, the institution to which he/she belongs, his/her e-mail address, and then the abstract in Arabic.
  • The second page contains an English translation of the contents of the first page (title, name and description of the researcher etc., abstract and keywords).
  • The abstract, in Arabic and English translation, contains the following elements each: (research objective, methodology, and results), provided that each of them should not exceed 170 words, and not less than 120 words, in one paragraph, and both should also be included keywords ranging between 4-5 words.
  • Introduction: The paper contains an introduction in which the researcher reviews: an overview of the topic, previous studies, the new contribution that the research will add in its field, research problem, research objectives, research importance, research methodology, and research plan (research sections), providing them in the context without separating titles within the introduction.
  • Presentation: The paper is presented in accordance with the adopted scientific standards and principles, and the referred to parts and sections, in a coherent and sequential manner.
  • Results: The results shall be displayed clearly, sequentially and accurately.

    Margins and references:
    Ensure that tables follow APA 7th edition guidelines in terms of accuracy and design.
    Use APA 7th edition for documenting footnotes within the research body.

    Arrange references at the end of the research in alphabetical order, following APA 7th edition guidelines. Exclude common prefixes such as "Al," "Abu," and "Ibn" from the alphabetization. For example, "Ibn Manzur" would be sorted under "M."

  • The researcher Romanizes the references after they are reviewed and approved in their final form by the journal’s editorial board.
  • The paper should be sent in Word and PDF formats in the name of the editor-in-chief to the journal’s e-mail address, i.e.,:

  • The editor-in-chief informs the researcher of the receipt of his/her paper and its approval for the peer-review or amendments before its approval for the peer-review.

 

        Third: Peer-review and Publication Procedures

  • After the paper is approved for the peer-review by the editor-in-chief, his deputy or the managing editor, the concerned paper is referred to the peer-reviewers.
  • Papers submitted for publication in the journal are subject to an anonymous double review process.
  • The decision to accept the paper for publication or rejecting it is made based on the reports submitted by the peer-reviewers and editors. They are based on the value of the scientific paper, the extent to which the approved publishing conditions and the declared policy of the journal are met, and on the principles of scientific honesty, originality and novelty of the research.
  • The editor-in-chief informs the researcher of the peer-reviewers’ decision regarding its eligibility to be published or not, or the requirement for further recommended amendments.
  • The researcher shall abide by the amendments recommended by the peer-reviewers and editors to be made in the paper according to the reports sent to him/her, within a period not exceeding 15 days.
  • The paper is returned to the peer-reviewers when the recommendations are substantive; to know the extent of the researcher's commitment to fulfill the necessary amendments. The editorial presidency/management is responsible for following up on the evaluation when the recommendations for amendments to be done are minor. Then, the final verification is to be done, and the researcher is given a letter of acceptance to publish, including the number and date of the issue that the paper will be published in.
  • After making sure that the manuscript is ready in its final form, it is sent for linguistic proofreading and technical review; then it is forwarded for the final production.
  • The paper is returned in its final form to the researcher before publication for final review and comments, if any, according to the form prepared for this.
  • Issues are published electronically on the magazine’s website according to the specific time plan for publication. Once they are published, they are made available for downloading for free without conditions.

 

Fourth: Publication Fee

Researchers pay the prescribed fees as follows:

  • Faculty members at Thamar University pay an amount of (15,000) Yemeni riyals.
  • Researchers from inside Yemen pay (25,000) Yemeni riyals.
  • Researchers from outside Yemen pay $150 or its equivalent.
  • The researchers also pay for sending hard copies of the issue.

Publication Ethics

For Researchers:

1) Submission of research to the journal implies the researcher's agreement to adhere to the publishing ethics established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). These guidelines can be explored through the following two links:

2) Researchers must sign a declaration confirming their ownership of the research, its originality, and that it has not been previously published or submitted elsewhere for publication.

3) If researchers become aware of any issues with their research, whether before or after submission, they must promptly notify the editor-in-chief and work to rectify these issues.

4) Researchers are expected to be responsive and address any recommended amendments throughout the submission, review, and publication process, as needed.

5) Researchers should avoid addressing topics that promote sectarianism, ethnicity, denominationalism, or partisanship.

6) Published research in the journal reflects the opinions of the researchers and not necessarily those of the journal itself.

7) The journal will not publish research that does not conform to its established standards, and if it discovers non-compliance after publication, it reserves the right to remove the research from its website and associated databases.

8) In line with the Code of Conduct, the journal will report any suspected cases of plagiarism or duplicate publication and may employ plagiarism detection software to check submitted papers at any time.

 

For Editors:

1) Editors are responsible for selecting suitable research papers for publication, making decisions on copyright and plagiarism issues, and consulting with expert reviewers and the journal's advisory board members as necessary.

2) Editors are committed to:

  • Maintaining neutrality and objectivity when evaluating submitted research, regardless of the researcher's race, gender, beliefs, or nationality.
  • Ensuring confidentiality by not disclosing any information related to submitted research except to authorized individuals designated by the journal's administrative body.
  • Upholding integrity and fairness, particularly in selecting and maintaining the anonymity of reviewers and researchers.
  • Assisting in the research and investigation processes to uphold the scientific integrity of submitted research, making appropriate corrections, or rejecting articles when necessary. Editors also address complaints as needed.

 

For Reviewers:

1) Each research paper is reviewed by two reviewers in the relevant field, with a third reviewer consulted if one of the initial reviewers rejects the research. The third reviewer's decision is decisive. All reviews are conducted through a double-blind process to maintain anonymity between the researchers and reviewers.

2) Reviewers are typically affiliated with different universities and hold high academic titles, such as professor or associate professor.

3) Reviewers are committed to scientific integrity, objectivity, and impartiality in evaluating research.

4) Reviewers adhere to set timeframes and promptly notify the editor-in-chief if they encounter any issues.

5) Reviewers maintain complete confidentiality regarding the research they review.

6) Reviewers substantiate their reports with scientific evidence and provide detailed comments on the research.

 

For the Journal's Administrative Body:

1) Following the highest standards of integrity and transparency.

2) Adopting the policies of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as a reference in the ethics of scientific research.

3) Researchers are given adequate opportunity to make required amendments and respond to reviewers' questions.

4) Researchers are informed of the permission to publish their research and are provided with specific publication details.

5) The organization of research papers in journal issues adheres to technical standards.

Open Access Statement

This is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access.

Dealing with research misconduct:

The Journal takes serious steps to identify and prevent publication of papers in which research misconduct has occurred, including plagiarism, citation manipulation, and data falsification/fabrication.
